How Acupuncture Works at Our Encino Office
Although this concept is still under study, the
notable effects experienced by acupuncture patients attest to the power
of the body's unconscious, yet powerful, capabilities to heal itself.
From a scientific standpoint, acupuncture is believed to target fibrous tissues known as fascia. Fascia binds blood vessels, nerves, muscles, and groups of muscles throughout the body and allows them to work together and communicate with one another. Fascia are believed to be the physical expression of the energy channels known as meridians, connecting parts of the body in often unexpected ways. By stimulating these nerve centers, acupuncture can influence parts of that brain that receive such signals, including signals that are not entirely under conscious control, such as digestion, respiration, and the sleep cycle.
When the body reacts to the stimulation of these nerve centers, it launches a strong response to trauma that is not, actually, occurring. This response is often a healing force that results from the body's inability to perceive the difference between actual trauma and the stimulation caused by acupuncture needles. The body perceives trauma, initiates a response, and then, in many cases, attempts to heal naturally.
